Poly-B & Repiping · Kelowna, BC

Poly-B & Repiping in Kelowna, BC

Many homes built from about the mid-1980s to the late 1990s were plumbed with grey polybutylene (Poly-B) pipe. Some owners replace it to prevent leaks or because their insurer asks about it.

How to spot Poly-B

Poly-B is usually grey (sometimes blue or black) flexible pipe, often marked "PB2110". Look near the water heater, under sinks and at the main shut-off. See what to know about Poly-B pipe.

What Poly-B looks like: grey flexible pipe, grey plastic fittings held by copper crimp rings, and printing on the pipe that includes “PB2110”.

Why people replace it

Fittings and pipe can become brittle with age and fail without warning. Some insurers ask about it or charge more for homes that still have it.

Repiping

A plumber can replace Poly-B or old galvanized pipe with modern piping, often room by room to limit wall opening.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to replace Poly-B?
It is your decision. Many homeowners do it for peace of mind or for insurance reasons. Ask your insurer what they require.
How long does repiping take?
It depends on the size of the home and how easy the pipes are to reach. A plumber can give you a timeline after looking at it.
